FUNDAMENTALS OF EXCEL

Facilitated By: Jan Gorley, (she/her) RECE

The Fundamentals of Excel workshop will help participants develop their skills to maximize their use of Excel and the efficiencies it offers for sorting and categorizing data. During this workshop we will be covering topics including:

  • the Excel ribbon & its important tools

  • formatting data

  • sorting data

  • working with formulas

This session will allow participants not only to watch and learn, but to try what they are being shown, using their own computers and versions of Excel while the presentation is happening. Participants will be provided a handout following the workshop. It will provide reference material on how to use the tools in Excel that are covered in the workshop. It will also include some scenarios that participants can complete to test the knowledge they have gained. An answer key will be included. It is expected that participants who complete The Fundamentals of Excel workshop will have a deeper understanding of utilizing Excel and efficiently sorting and managing data.

We absolutely encourage those with Google Sheets to attend, they are quite similar and the plan is to offer instructions for both tools, including offering differentiated information in the PDF handout document.

Jan Gourley is a member of Literacy Link South Central’s staff, a Registered Early Childhood Educator, and the training coordinator for the Pathways into a Child Care and Early Years Career and Organizational Leadership in Early Childhood Education programs. She’s also a wiz at Excel.
