Researchers and educators have noted a lack of consensus in the field of Early Childhood Education regarding characteristics and definitions of professional development approaches such as mentoring, supervising, and coaching. A lack of knowledge and understanding has caused confusion about the purpose and processes as indicated by the various terms (Ramsey & Ramsey, 2005).
