This is a casual part-time position with opportunities to work Monday-Friday. Hours needed are occasional 9 am-12 pm or 12-3 pm with occasional evening opportunities.

Description:

The Casual CAPC Childminder will be an employee of the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre (SLNRC). Day-to-day supervision/consultation will be provided by the Project Manager of Families First CAPC.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate high quality childminding programs for families with children 0-6 years of age

  • Provide care with a child-centered approach to the children.

  • Connect with families, provide support and referrals where appropriate and invite participation from adults to enrich children’s experience.

  • Role model positive and appropriate adult-child interactions during programs.

  • Ensure materials/equipment in program space are safe at all times.

  • Provide all families and children with a culturally safe space to explore and participate in.

  • Maintain an understanding of current early learning best practices.

  • Participate in meaningful and continuous professional learning opportunities.

  • Attend staff meetings and training opportunities.

  • Operate in accordance with policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols of the SLNRC.


Qualifications:

  • Degree/Diploma in ECE, SSW, human services, CYW, sociology or related experience or field.

  • Experience working with families, children and newcomers.

  • Knowledge of community development and health promotion.

  • Knowledge of resources for at-risk residents, child abuse prevention and cross-cultural needs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skill including computer skills.

  • Passion for working with children & families and providing quality programming that promotes children’s optimal well-being.

  • Knowledge of community supports and resources.

  • Must be able to work independently and part of a team.

  • Must have excellent organization, communication and writing skills.

  • Must be punctual and responsive.

  • More than one language would be an asset.

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.

  • Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check.

  • Physical Requirements: The position involves working with young children and includes lifting
