Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) is a diverse, multiservice Indigenous health and wellness agency, who has extended its services in the field of early learning and child care. The Child Care at Nshwaasnangong offers licensed child care for up to 88 children ages 0-6 years of age old. The Language Consultant will support the new Nshwaasnangong Child Care and Family Centre. The Language Consultant will engage and listen to the local urban Indigenous community and service providers and support the revitalization of Indigenous languages and cultures in the early years. This individual will also contribute to the communications work for Nshwaasnangong Child Care and Family Centre. Reporting to the Family Centre Manager, the Language Consultants will represent Nshwaasnangong
Child Care and Family Centre in the community with families and partners.

Qualifications:

  • Fluent in Anishinaabemowin language
  • Experience creating curriculum including lesson plans for a variety language learners
  • First Aid and CPR Certificates
  • Access to reliable transportation; valid Ontario Driver’s “G” license is an asset
  • Maintain current and satisfactory vulnerable sector police check
  • Up-to-date immunizations and records including COVID-19
  • Must be available for evening and/or weekend meetings or programming
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing Indigenous training, teachings and ceremonies

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education diploma, OR, currently working towards Early Childhood Education diploma, OR relevant education and/or experience
  • A demonstrated commitment to language revitalization and reclaiming cultural identities, experience as an Indigenous language learner an asset
  • Knowledge of the Indigenous histories, cultures, creation stories, and language of the Indigenous population in the London area
  • Must be able to meet the legislative requirements for working in a licensed child care setting
  • Obtain/maintain a clean and current vulnerable sector police check as a condition of employment
  • Access to reliable transportation

Often times there may be no established pattern to work hours, and availability would be required from 6:00 am to 6:00pm, as your shifts may fall anywhere within those hours, including the possibility of a split shift.

Qualifications:

Education and Certifications:

  • Advanced Diploma or Degree in Accounting and/or Finance
  • Valid Standard First Aid and CPR-Level C certificate
  • Clear Vulnerable Persons Screening with Criminal Reference Check

Experience:

  • Five plus years’ of demonstrated experience in a similar position
  • Experience in the Not-For-Profit, Charitable sector is preferred
  • Experience with Adagio accounting software (preferred) or other batch-based system
  • Expert level Excel, Intermediate level of other MSOffice products.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles
  • Strong analytical skills, able to effectively problem solve and suggest solutions
  • Able to use professional judgment on a daily basis within guidelines established by Oxford Community Child Care and relevant regulation/legislation
  • Knowledge of current legislation relevant to charities and not-for-profits
  • Good organizational skills with above average accuracy and attention to detail
  • Self-starter, highly motivated, able to work independently
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, highly effective manner both orally and in writing
  • Able to maintain neat and accurate records, prepare and present reports to an accepted standard
  • Demonstrates ability to handle emergencies, crises, and hostile behavior in a professional manner
  • Able to provide guidance to staff, students, and volunteers.
