The RECE or Educational Assistant collaborates with team of RECEs and Educational Assistants and reports directly to the Child Care Manager. They will lead all aspects within their assigned classroom to provide a culturally relevant, childcare curriculum. The RECE or Educational Assistant is a kind and forward-thinking individual who champions the revitalization of Indigenous languages and cultures within the early years. They will ensure a program that is reflective of How Does Learning Happen: Ontario’s pedagogy for the Early Years and falls within the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and aligns with Nshwaasnangong’s Program Statement.

Qualifications:

General Requirements

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education an asset
  • Able to meet the legislative requirements for working in a licensed child care setting
  • Obtain/maintain a clean and current vulnerable sector police check as a condition of employment
  • Valid government issued driver’s license or access to reliable transportation
  • Up-to-date immunization and records including at least 2 COVID-19 immunizations
  • Willingness to participate in Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, teachings and ceremonies
  • Registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators (RECE only)
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Early Childhood Education required (RECE only)

Knowledge and Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in an Early Childhood Setting
  • A demonstrated commitment to language revitalization and reclaiming cultural identities; experience as an Indigenous language learner an asset

Reporting to the Childcare Manager the Childcare & Behavioural Support Specialist will provide resources, training, and assistance to educators to effectively identify, address and prevent challenging behaviors in young children as a result of enhanced physical, cognitive or behavioural needs as well as enhancing the child/staff ratio.

The Childcare & Behavioural Support Specialist will work collaboratively with the Child Care Manager to implement the Child Care program in accordance with the Nshwaasnangong Program Statement. The Childcare & Behaviour Support Specialist assists with staffing and the scheduling of all front-line staff and behavioural supports in accordance with the Ministry of Education’s staffing ratios, as well as all enhanced staffing requirements, and provides support in a front-line capacity to all programs as needed. The Childcare & Behavioural Support Specialist ensures that all tasks reflect the mission, vision, and values of Nshwaasnangong Child Care & Family Centre.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or post-secondary diploma plus experience in one or several of the following fields: Early Childhood Education, Applied Behavioural Analysis, Social Work, Child & Youth, Developmental Service, Behavioral Support, Special Education, Child Psychology, ECE Resource Consulting
  • Training in Nonviolent Crisis Prevention/Intervention Training (CPI) an asset
  • Registration with the College of Early Childhood Education an asset
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with children with physical, cognitive, or behavioural needs, especially in a childcare setting
  • Knowledge of the Indigenous histories, cultures, values, creation stories, and language of the Indigenous population in the London area
  • Training and experience in a field that relates to the needs of children with Special Needs or differing abilities/diagnoses
  • Able to meet the legislative requirements for working in a licensed childcare setting
  • Knowledge of theories and practices applicable to the children’s mental health field and special education
  • Demonstrates a commitment to working in an inclusive environment responding with sensitivity and personal awareness to diverse needs and challenges
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Able to interact and collaborate with staff, students and families in a professional manner
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work effectively as a team and independently
  • Knowledge and course verification of student de-escalation and safe methods of physical interventions during crisis
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours
  • Willingness to participate in Indigenous Cultural Safety Training, teachings and ceremonies.

Nshwaasnangong’s team of RECEs and Educational Assistants collaborate together to provide a culturally rich, inclusive early learning environment and report directly to the Child Care Manager. The Supply Educator fills in for team members who are unable to report to work. The Supply Educator is a kind and forward-thinking individual who champions the revitalization of Indigenous languages and cultures within the early years. They will assist with the implementation of a program that is reflective of How Does Learning Happen: Ontario’s pedagogy for the Early Years and falls within the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 and aligns with Nshwaasnangong’s Program

Qualifications:

  • Early Childhood Education diploma, OR, currently working towards Early Childhood Education diploma, OR relevant education and/or experience
  • A demonstrated commitment to language revitalization and reclaiming cultural identities, experience as an Indigenous language learner an asset
  • Knowledge of the Indigenous histories, cultures, creation stories, and language of the Indigenous population in the London area
  • Must be able to meet the legislative requirements for working in a licensed child care setting
  • Obtain/maintain a clean and current vulnerable sector police check as a condition of employment
  • Access to reliable transportation

The Language Consultant will support the new Nshwaasnangong Child Care and Family Centre.  The Language Consultant will engage and listen to the local urban Indigenous community and service providers and support the revitalization of Indigenous languages and cultures in the early years. This individual will also contribute to the communications work for Nshwaasnangong Child Care and Family Centre.

This part-time position working towards full-time @ 25 hours (5 days) per week leading to full-time (35 hours/week). Salary is subject to experience. Optional pension (HOOPP) included.

Oxford Community Child Care – School Age Program Facilitators

These positions are for 25-26 hours per week, split shift, with full days on PD Days, March Break and Summer.

Qualifications:

You have:

  • Registration in good standing with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators (preferred)
  • CYW, BEd, Child and Family Studies graduates also considered
  • Experience with children from 3.8 to 12 or are looking to start your career with a great agency
  • Current First Aid and CPR Level C
  • Able to work split shifts – 7am to school start and school end to 5:30pm
