“The very first step of Self-Reg is always to ‘dig deeper’ because you really can’t reframe a behaviour until you understand it.”
– Dr. Stuart Shanker
In this session, we will explore Dr. Shanker’s approach to Self-Regulation for School Age children.
Most of the behaviours that challenge us with School Age children are often a reaction to stress that the child is experiencing.
Together we will explore how to distinguish between stress behaviour and “misbehavior”. When we reframe the way we look at behaviour, we have a much better outcome and a more positive connection with the children in our care.
Participants will also be encouraged to reflect on the importance of their own regulation and dysregulation, and discover how this can affect their connection with children. Additionally, we will consider Self Reg in the context of both ADHD and Anxiety diagnoses.
Through reflection, discussion, and small group activities, you will learn about self-regulation – not just for the School Age children you work with but for yourselves as well.
** Registration priority will be given to professionals working in Elgin county.
